Abstract

With the advent of compound words, like all multi-syllable words in English, it undergoes phonetic changes. These phonetic changes, in turn, affect the morphological structure of the word. Individual morphemes in a compound word may be lost, the compound meaning of the compound word may be changed, or it may be forgotten altogether.
